The Division of Building Codes Enforcement reviews and approves plans for construction on all buildings serving the public whether they are publicly or privately owned applying the Kentucky Building Code as it pertains to the construction of new buildings and alterations, additions and changes of occupancy to existing buildings.

The Division of Plumbing conducts examinations, licenses master and journeyman plumbers, issues plumbing construction permits and inspects installations in order to assure compliance with the Kentucky State Plumbing Code.

The Division of Fire Prevention investigates all fire incidents and assists in apprehension of those responsible for criminal burnings. The division also enforces Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Regulations; conducts life safety surveys in health care, educational, places of assembly, government buildings and special occupancies as warranted; regulates explosives, fireworks, flammable and combustible liquids and gases; performs plan reviews for flammable and combustible liquids and gases; licenses all fire alarm signaling systems and fire suppressions systems vendors and contractors; serves as major incident response team for all fire fatalities including incidents involving manufactured housing and the state park system.
