Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors
The Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors was created by Senate Bill 34 and became effective July 13, 2004. Although the bill became effective in July of 2004, home inspectors were not required to be licensed until July 1, 2006.
The board is comprised of 10 members appointed by the governor. Five members shall be licensed by the board as home inspectors and shall have been actively engaged in performing home inspections in Kentucky for at least five years immediately before the member's appointment to the board. The other five board members shall be qualified as follows: One person shall be a home builder; one person shall be a licensed real estate salesperson or broker, one person shall represent the public at large who is not associated with the home inspection, home building or real estate business other than a consumer; and one person shall be a licensed manufactured home retailer, certified retailer or certified installer. All four of the preceding board members shall have been actively engaged in such an occupation for at least five years immediately before the member's appointment to the board. The executive director of the Office of Housing, Buildings and Construction or his designee will be a member of the board.
