  1. When am I required to have my continuing education hours?
    A.
    If your birth month is after June 2008, renewal for master or journeyman plumbing licenses will be required to have eight hours of approved education before license can be renewed.

  2. Where will I be able to take classes to get the required hours?
    A.
    At this time providers and locations have not been determined. Providers and classes will be approved before March 2008. The regulation requires offering a class once a quarter in all six districts in Kentucky.

  3. What are the required hours for a master license?
    A.
    Each master plumber shall provide proof of completion of eight hours of continuing education prior to license renewal. The required continuing education shall be received within 12 months prior to renewal. Continuing education shall be related to one of the following:
            (a) Business
            (b) Job safety
            (c) The Kentucky State Plumbing Code
            (d) Items directly related to the plumbing trade.

  4. What are the required hours for a journeyman license?
    A. Each journeyman plumber shall provide proof of completion of eight hours of continuing education prior to license renewal. The required continuing education shall be received within 12 months prior to renewal. Continuing education courses shall consist of a minimum two hours on job safety. The other six hours shall consist of:
            (a) The Kentucky State Plumbing Code
            (b) Job safety
            (c) Items directly related to the plumbing trade.

  5. How much will it cost me?
    A. The cost will vary. The cost is up to the providers. We have asked each provider interested in being approved to make it as affordable as possible.

  6. Does any of my continuing education hours from my HVAC or electrical count for my plumbing required hours?
    A.
    It depends if the courses have been pre-approved by the Plumbing Code Committee. All guidelines will have to be met before courses will count for both. Master and journeyman plumbers have the sole responsibility for making sure all continuing education courses and hours are approved.

  7. How do I become an approved provider for continuing education?
    A.

  8. Does my approval as a provider for HVAC or electrical qualify for plumbing?
    A. As a provider, you will have to submit all applications and course syllabus along with instructor information for approval.

  9. Why do I need continuing education and if I don't get the required hours what will happen to my license?
    A. Continuing education is an important part of keeping up to date with code changes, new approved products and how they are correctly installed, job and employee safety, business knowledge and to better protect the trade and its tradesmen. If continuing education hours requirement are not met by your birth month renewal, your license will not be renewable until hours are obtained.

  10. How often do I need continuing education hours?
    A.
    Continuing education hours are required every year before license renewal after July 2008. Continuing education hours are required each calendar year.
